TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING
I became a TRX suspension trainer in June 2012 and was amazed at the changes to my body, particularly gaining ab definition for the first time in my life! TRX is a unique form of suspension training that uses gravity and your own bodyweight to perform hundreds of different exercises to develop a rock-solid core and increase muscular strength and endurance. It uses ALL of your muscles, even the deeper ones that are so hard to get into.
I qualified as a TRX FORCE Level 2 Instructor in March 2014 (previously only offered to the military) and I am planning to do my TRX Sports Medicine Rehabilitation course shortly. My aim is to become a TRX Master Instructor.

CORE FITNESS
Without solid core strength you will not get the maximum benefits from your exercise programme. I love using my own body weight as well as various tools like my TRX, Swiss Ball, Medicine Ball, Kettlebells and Free Weights to increase my core strength and stability.
Core strength is an often neglected part of exercise regimes but I strongly believe that it is a vital component to ensure improved posture, greater endurance and general well-being.
Since my major back surgery in 2010 this has been an area that I have really worked on and the incredible life-changing benefits it has given me means that I am no longer aware of any back pain.

PRIVATE STUDIO
In May 2013 I built my own private gym "pod" in the back garden of my house. It is wonderful having the ability to offer a completely personalised and private one-to-one personal training session with no distractions like there often can be in busy gyms.
Fully air-conditioned with a treadmill, exercise bike, TRX Mount (attached to a steel beam running the length of the roof), free weights, kettlebells, Swiss Ball, Medicine Ball, Ab Wheel, boxing gloves and pads - all the extra tools that make a workout varied and fun.

MUSCLE TONE
No matter how fit - or unfit! - you may be there is always room for improvement. 90% of clients want to lose belly fat, increase stamina, tone arms, gain strength - all of these goals are easily achievable with regular exercise. I also like to show clients exercises that they can easily do when they are away on holiday or in between sessions.
A pound of muscle burns 38 calories whilst a pound of fat only burns 2 calories. It is a common misconception that lifting weights will cause "bulk" which is not the case unless you are specifically training for hypertrophy (large muscle growth). Different energy systems used by the body create the results you want.

REHABILITATION
Given the back problems I have suffered from, first injuring my back in 1989, as well as the various muscular aches and pains this has caused - and age-related aches and pains too! - I have a greater understanding of how to deal with pain and which exercises can help the body cope with injuries.
I always listen to how my client feels with certain exercises and can quickly observe from facial expressions and breathing whether or not the chosen movement is suitable. There is always an adaptation for every single exercise, a regression or progression, depending on the needs of each individual.
I am REPs registered Level 3 (membership no. R0090250).
